The weather forecast for Saturday was not great, and yet skippers showed up anyway. No accounting for
boating people's affinity for the feel of wind and rain in their faces. We only had the threat of rain along with goofy wind that
worked to confuse many, while the wily old salts used their experience to pry thrust out of
the capricious whiffs and gusts. It was a tiring experience for me. Ron Rhault used his us12 as an faux STAR and
had success until the winds steadied and strengthened, while allowed the true stars to gain distance on the lower sail area and heavier
weight of the us12.
As can noted from the results below, the final scores for the first four boat were remarkably close. Many
of the races were very close. The stars showed their advantage well in the unstable wind conditions. The boat stayed on their feet in
the flipflop winds and took advantage of gusts by streaking away with the winds while they lasted. Given that people drove for
considerable distance, I hope they were rewarded with pleasurable sailing. Next Saturday the Housatonic club will host another
STAR event which Pete and I plan to attend. Perhaps Bob Shluger will be able to attend also, which will improve our club's standing in
the STAR events. We are also hoping to see Mary Goebel's new star...... regards, Rich
